3D Printer & Tools Review

Do3d's 2nd Giveaway

Hey everyone reading, I entered the world of cosplaying/propmaking about 4 years ago. Ever since I've been making props with eva foam and finishing them with mod podge, plastidip or regular pva glue. I have been trying to get a smooth finish but I haven't been able to completely achieve it. For example: Mod podge and pva glue leave streaks when painted on, plastidip leaves a texture on the prop and does not give a smooth finish. My friend 3d prints small parts that I would need for my cosplay because I do not have a 3d printer but the prints are limited to small pieces only as he has a small printer. I need a 3d printer to print whole armors also I have been learning to use softwares like blender and cura. I use automotive primer for the 3d printer parts, sand using a sanding block and multiple sand papers of different grades and use a dremel to cut off or rough sand the parts.

Tools I Use:

  1. Dremel

  2. Mod Podge

  3. 10mm, 5mm, 3mm foam

  4. Sanding block and sand papers

  5. Kwik seal caulk

  6. Automotive primer

  7. Plastidip rubber coating

  8. Wood glue

  9. Bondo filler

  10. Xacto knifes and box cutters

  11. Bison plastic adhesive and contact cement

The Pictures:

  1. Iron man hand - Made with 3mm craft foam and primed with wood glue. Used 5v led lights for the repulsor. Later weathered with some watered down black acrylic paint.

  2. Captain America Shield - Made with a saucer sled as base, metal fasteners as rivets and a belt as the grip.

  3. Iron Man Torso - Made with 5mm foam and primed with wood glue. 5v led lights were added later for the arc reactor.

  4. Jason Voorhees' Machete from Friday the 13th (unfinished) - Made with 5mm foam with a metal rod in the middle for rigidity. Dents and imperfections filled with Kwik seal later primed with Mod podge.

  5. Nightwing Mask (unfinished) - Made with 3mm craft foam.

Thanks.
