I have an open-plan space where the kitchen, dining, and living areas all flow together. The problem is that the kitchen feels disconnected from the rest, and I want it to feel more integrated. Should I use a kitchen island, a breakfast bar, or something else to create a natural transition between zones?

What worked for me was creating a visual bridge between the kitchen and the living room using both flooring and lighting. I chose the same wood-look tiles throughout the whole space to make it feel continuous, then added a long breakfast bar that doubles as a dining table – it acts as a subtle divider without blocking the view. To test this before buying anything, I used the kitchen planner from Roomtodo. I drew my entire open-plan layout, placed the bar in different positions, and even experimented with pendant lights above it. The 3D view helped me see how the space would actually feel.
