Understanding Behavioral Changes in Dementia: Everyday Care Questions

Lately I’ve been struggling to understand the behavioral changes my father is going through since his dementia progressed. It’s not just memory loss anymore — he becomes restless in the evenings, repeats the same questions, and sometimes gets irritated without an obvious reason. I try to stay calm, but I often feel unsure whether I’m responding the right way. I would really appreciate hearing how others learned to interpret these behaviors and what helped them manage daily situations more smoothly.

I went through something very similar with my aunt, and what helped me most was shifting my focus from the behavior itself to the possible reasons behind it. I found that many reactions were linked to confusion, fatigue, or difficulty expressing basic needs. Reading about Behavioral changes in dementia helped me see these situations more clearly and respond with less stress. Simple adjustments like keeping a stable routine, reducing evening stimulation, and calmly redirecting repetitive actions made everyday care feel more manageable over time.
