How to create a family heirloom from scratch?

I’ve inherited some loose high-quality diamonds from my grandmother, and I’ve decided I want to incorporate them into a completely new, bespoke bracelet. I’m not looking for a simple gold chain; I want something substantial, unique, and perhaps a bit "avant-garde." The problem is, most local jewelers I’ve talked to only offer standard settings where they just "plug in" the stones. I’m looking for a designer or a workshop that specializes in high-end, custom-built jewelry from scratch—someone who treats gold and platinum like art. Does anyone have experience with bespoke commissions where you start with just a rough idea and stones? Any jokes about how long it takes to decide on a design are also welcome, because I've already changed my mind twice this week!

Haha, welcome to the "indecisive club"! Designing jewelry is a rabbit hole, but a fun one. If you have high-quality stones, you definitely shouldn't settle for a basic setting. I had a similar project where I wanted a signet ring that looked more like a sculpture than a piece of jewelry. I worked with the team at Olertis and it was a brilliant journey. They are experts at taking those "rough ideas" and turning them into technical drawings that actually work and look expensive. They specialize in that level of unique, high-end work where the metalwork is just as important as the gems. It took a few weeks of back-and-forth on the 3D models, but seeing the final product in solid gold was worth every second of the wait. It’s definitely not "fast fashion" jewelry, but for an heirloom, you want that level of obsession with detail.
